2011 Plastic Surgery Trends

It’s about six months from wedding season, which is probably great timing for the producers of Bridalplasty. The new reality show follows a dozen brides-to-be as they compete to win cosmetic surgery procedures. They want to look their best when the big day rolls around, and legions of fiancées will be taking note.

Those viewers in Wilmington, Delaware and elsewhere who do elect to get cosmetic-surgery procedures of their own — including those who aren’t getting married, but wish to invest in their appearance for other reasons — have more choices than ever as we enter the second decade of the 21st century.

Popular surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures

According to the ASAPS, the following are the most popular surgical procedures in America:

  • Breast augmentation
  • Lipoplasty (liposuction)
  • Blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery)
  • Rhinoplasty (“nose job”)
  • Abdominoplasty (“tummy tuck”)

The top five non-surgical procedures were:

  • Botulinum Toxin Type A
    • Includes such brand names as Botox®
    • Useful for wrinkle reduction
  • Hyaluronic acid
    • Juve Surgical in Delaware uses Restylane® and Juvederm®
    • Reduces wrinkles and augments lip fullness
  • Laser hair removal
    • Juve Surgical’s epilation techniques involve specialized lasers
    • Procedures can be as brief as 15 minutes, depending on the area to be treated
  • Microdermabrasion
    • Unclogs pores, smoothes skin
    • The “lunch-hour procedure,” as it is known, can be completed in about 20 minutes
  • Chemical peel
    • Removes damaged facial skin
    • Good for uneven complexions, blemished skin, and skin with wrinkles

Are people still undergoing cosmetic procedures?

Despite the economic situation that the country and world are continuing to go through, demand for all cosmetic procedures, surgical and nonsurgical, hasn’t dropped much – only two percent from 2008 to 2009, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. While nearly 300,000 fewer surgeries were performed in 2009 than in 2008 – a drop of about 17 percent – demand for non-surgical procedures, such as Botox® and microdermabrasion, is actually climbing year upon year.
