Frequently Asked Questions

Plastic Surgery

  • Is there a difference between cosmetic and reconstructive surgery?

Yes. Cosmetic surgery reshapes parts of the body to improve appearance. It is considered an elective surgery and is therefore rarely covered by health insurance. Reconstructive surgery is performed on parts of the body that have become deformed due to defects, abnormalities, trauma or disease. It is performed to improve appearance and, in many cases, to improve mobility. Reconstructive surgery is often covered by insurance policies, although coverage varies greatly. The procedures at Juve Surgical in Wilmington, Delaware are generally considered cosmetic procedures.

  • How soon can I recover from plastic surgery?

Many procedures performed at Juve Surgical allow patients to go home the same day and return to normal activity immediately. Liposuction patients may face extended recovery but, because of the tumescent techniques used, often return to activity after only 24 hours of rest.

  • Is plastic surgery safe?

The plastic surgery procedures performed at Juve Surgical are safe and effective. Your doctor, esthetician or surgeon will explain in detail the risk associated with your procedure.

Liposuction

  • What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical technique that improves the body's contour by removing excess fat deposits located between the skin and muscle. Liposuction involves the use of a small stainless steel tube connected to a powerful suction pump and removes the fat through small incisions in the skin.

  • Is it expensive?

Because liposuction can be performed on all areas of the body, it is hard to determine a specific cost without a consultation. Please contact Juve Surgical for your free consultation so we can give you an accurate estimate.

  • Is there any special preparation or post-treatment?

Before the procedure, you will likely need to stop smoking and taking aspirin or other medicines that promote bleeding, and get some lab work done. After the procedure, you may need to wear compression clothes around the treatment areas and there may be drains to remove fluid buildup.

  • How long does it last?

If you are active and have a balanced nutrition on a long-term basis, liposuction should also provide long-term results.

Botox®

  • What is Botox®?

Botox® is a natural purified protein produced by Clostridium botulinum bacterium that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of frown lines between the eyebrows. It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines to form between the brows.

  • Is it permanent?

Botox® temporarily reduces the appearance of wrinkles such as expression lines and wrinkles caused by the aging process and is a very popular alternative to having a surgical procedure done in Wilmington, Delaware.

  • When will I see results?

Within days, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate-to-severe frown lines between your brows. Lines continue to improve for up to 30 days, and results can last for up to 4 months.

  • Is there any discomfort?

There is some discomfort, which is usually minimal and brief. Prior to injection, your esthetician may numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. Patients can usually go right back to regular activity after treatment, but should stay away from physical exercise for 24 hours.

Microdermabrasion

  • What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion involves the skin being "sandblasted" by aluminum oxide crystals to remove the top layer of the skin – dead skin cells – and to stimulate the growth of new cells. It can also clean your pores and hinder any future breakouts if used on a regular basis, and reduce the appearance of acne scars.

  • When will I see results?

There are immediate benefits after just a single microdermabrasion treatment. At Juve Surgical, we recommend 3-5 treatments to achieve maximum results.

  • How long does it last?

It varies from patient to patient, but typically medical microdermabrasion lasts about a month.

  • Is there any discomfort?

There may be minimal discomfort, for example it may sting a little around the eye area. Your skin will feel tight immediately after the procedure, and it may also feel a little hot and appear a little pink for the first day.

Chemical Peels

  • How do they work?

Natural acids are used to remove the dead skin cells, improve skin texture, fine lines and overall appearance of the skin.

  • What about birth control?

The risk of a skin color change may occur if you are taking birth control pills. But there is also this same risk, with certain skin types, for candidates who have a family history of skin discoloration. Call Juve Surgical in Wilmington, DE to discuss this in your free consultation.

  • Is there any special post-treatment?

JuveSurgical recommends using sun block after a chemical peel. There will be some mild peeling or redness after the treatment. You may also need pain medication after a stronger peel.

  • Is there any discomfort?

There maybe mild discomfort with some of the stronger peels. Most people experience a stinging or itching sensation with stronger peels.

Dermal Fillers

  • What are dermal fillers like Juvederm® and Restylane® made of?

They are made of a natural substance that already exists in the human body called hyaluronic acid, which restores fullness and smoother contours to your face.

  • What are the results?

Patients typically have 80 to 100% improvement in the appearance of the injected lines and wrinkles temporarily. Since everyone is different, the dermal filler results can last from 6 months to one year.

  • Can I have an allergic reaction?

Dermal fillers like Juvederm® and Restylane® consist of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally produced in the body, so there will be no allergic reaction with this procedure.

  • Is there any discomfort?

There is minimal discomfort, but Juve Surgical has a topical or local anesthetic available if necessary.

Laser Hair Removal

  • How does it work?

A person’s hair follicle is darker than their skin, so using Juve Surgical’s state-of-the-art laser, the light will diminish the hair follicle without damaging skin cells, rejuvenating the top layer of the skin, and brightening the area.

  • What are the results?

Laser hair removal can permanently remove the hair from the body. Every person is different, and though many people experience permanent hair reduction, maintenance sessions may be necessary in some cases.

  • Is there any special preparation or post-treatment?

Do not pluck, wax or have electrolysis in the areas you want to treat for 6 weeks prior to laser hair removal. Also avoid tanning for a few weeks before the procedure. After the procedure, wear sunscreen regularly and avoid skin irritants for a few days.

  • Is there any discomfort?

There is minimal discomfort. It feels like a rubber band snap, and upon request the Juve Surgical esthetician can apply topical anesthesia.
